Aztec Stories

This is an anthology of events as recorded in Codices (ancient books such as the Florentine Codex) and from oral tradition stories.  Many of the tracks focus on the time period when the Spaniards first arrived.  What is revealed is also the fact that many of these codices were written after the arrival of the Spaniards and under the supervision of the Spanish Priests a perspective is presented that the listener should be aware of.  There are also ballads, such as "Beast" and "Burning Books," that reveal atrocities perpetuated by the Spaniards in their quest for land, labor, gold, and the suppression of the indigenous culture.  One narrative, titled "remembering..." is taken from the letters and diaries of two Spaniards, Bernal Diaz del Castillo and Hernan Cortes, as they tried to describe the wondrous beauty of Mexico-Tenochtitlan the center of the Mexica culture, a city unlike any they had ever witnessed.
